Howto to add an expansion units to an existing and running SHA (Synology High Availability) Cluster?

Well, we didn't find an answer in manual or Synology Knowledgebase. Only found this question in forum.

So this is how we do:

  • Mount the new expansion unit in your environment, neverless I have to say, that you need identical hardware for active and passive node
  • Swap in your new harddrives (same bay usage in active and passive expansion unit)
  • power on both expansion units
  • wait a few moments so you have a continuous blue state LED
  • plug the infinibus connection cable between expansion unit and active server
  • plug the infinibus connection cable between expansion unit and passive server
  • check your logs, you will find an appropriate event

  • now change to Storage Manager, you will see the expansion unit

  • configure your prefeered RAID
  • check your logs, you will find an appropriate event

  • happy SHAing :-)
